FAQ #8: How Does Submission Work?

Question: I have tried many FFA Submission sites and they have never worked. How do I know that your service will deliver the kind of results that the FFA Submission sites cannot?

Answer: First off, our system is not a FFA Submission type site.

FFA Submission sites handle all submissions 100% by software. FFA submissions are sent to pages that accept submissions from 1000's of sources on an hourly basis. The scam behind the FFA Submission process is that a link will be posted on a FFA (Free for All) page, and the page will limit links to 100 URL's or 1000 URL's. After 100 or 1000 subsequent submissions will have been made, your URL will drop off of the page. In some cases your URL will drop after a day, and in others, it could drop after only ten minutes --- depending on the volume of submissions going to the particular site. The most ugly aspect of the FFA Submission is that few people if any actually review the links that are posted on a FFA page. When was the last time you reviewed the URL's on a FFA page? You have made my point for me.

Our service holds nothing in common with a FFA Submission service!

While we do automate a certain portion of our submission process, a human being still handles every submission. While pure automation could be accomplished, we will never go to a purely automated program. Why?

Purely automated programs get abused. They are not always abused on purpose, as some people just don't know any better. But the truth is the system will be abused, either on purpose or by accident. Any system that is abused will dimish in value until it serves no value to its users at all.

All submissions made through our system are handled by a real people, with real experience in this field.

Our system works like this:

There are dozens of mailing lists that exist for the sole purpose of distributing free content to publishers and webmasters who need the content for their ezines or websites. These mailing lists generally exist in the public arena, and publishers and webmasters sign up to the mailing lists --- through the double opt-in method (requesting a subscription, and then verifying their intent to subscribe) --- for the sole purpose of receiving content that is available to them for reprint. The majority of these mailing lists exist on YahooGroups and in Topica. Other mailing lists reside in various locations throughout the Internet.

This service was originally built for my own use, and then I adapted it to serving others. As such, it is a tool that I value for myself very highly.

I was always looking to maximize my ability to get my own articles into circulation. In the beginning, I had done it by hand. Of course, many of these mailing lists will not accept an article that has been submitted to many lists at the same time. So, I had to send my articles to each list, one at a time. The real challenge always came from keeping track of what kind of content I could send to each list. Some lists accept all content, while others accept only very targeted content. The next challenge was keeping track of where I had already sent the article and where I had not sent the article. My only way around this was to construct 24 emails at the same time, and then send each, one at a time.

After a time, my greatest challenge became finding the energy to jump through all of these hoops to get my articles into circulation. When you are spending two hours to distribute one article, you start to take shortcuts, and you start skipping submissions to some lists. The task at hand just becomes too large to consistently follow through completely with every article.

After a while of going through this tedious process, I knew that my programming abilities could help me overcome this hurdle I was facing in getting my articles to the largest number of publishers interested in receiving my articles. So, I sat down and constructed a Perl / MySQL script that helped me to complete this task.

In my database, I have listed more than 130 different submission mailing lists, and a few of the larger publishers by submission address. Each of these mailing lists are listed in a HTML table. Each record shows the name of the group and an explanation as to what type of content they accept. Each record also has a checkbox. A human being must, in every case, select the mailing lists to whom a particular article can be delivered.

We simply fill out a form with the appropriate article information, and then we create a copy of the article on our domain, then we create an autoresponder for that article, and then we select the mailing lists that we will be sending the article to. We first run a test copy through the mail system, and then we send the actual distribution to the lists that have been selected.

Our domain serves more than 600 publishers per day searching for reprint content, so the posting of the article on our domain will generate additional reprints. The autoresponder is provided for publishers who visit our website and want to reprint the article. In this way, a publisher can select an article for reprint, and then order a copy-and-paste ready copy of the article for quick and easy reproduction.

We are always on the lookout to add new mailing lists to our submission database. Every month or so, we do an active search to locate new article distribution outlets. We also reqeust that anyone who owns such a list to contact us with the list information. We even accept information from website managers who accept free reprint article submissions. We have managed to script in a few of these sites as well, although our ability here is not as wide ranging as it is with the submission mailing groups.

Additionally, we constantly advertise not only our database of articles, but we also advertise some of our other self-owned mailing lists. Of the more than 200 mailing lists we submit to, we personally own more than 120 of these mailing lists. Only a couple of these lists will only accept content from us, the rest permit submissions from any writer. One final note on this subject, most of these mailing lists are moderated so that only articles go to the lists. By keeping the spam and other garbage out of the lists, we keep the publishers and webmasters interested in the content delivered to the lists.

As always, if you have any other questions, I would be delighted to answer them for you.
