FAQ #29: Tracking ResultsQuestion: I am excited about testing your service. In the event that it is successful, I will use it frequently--which leads me to the question of this email. What is the best way to track the results from your experience?Answer: The best way to track results is to create a Redirect URL on your own domain. Setup the redirect only on your own domain --- do not pay for a redirect service. The reason I say that you should never use a redirect service is because if you do, you will be forever committed to use that service in order to continue receiving the benefit of the publication of your articles. If you choose to use a redirect service, you should only use that tool for your direct advertising, such as classified ads and banners. In all other cases, you should use a redirect URL from your own domain to protect the value of your own hard work. Additionally, you should NEVER tie your own success to the longevity of a third party site, and you should NEVER commit yourself to one specific service provider for the length of your own lifetime. Then, track the click-through's on your own redirect url. This info should be able to you in your site tracking statistics. For example, use this url in your copy: http://yourdomain.com/article1 and have that url redirect to your main page: http://yourdomain.com Then when you check page views in your site statistics, look for clicks on: http://yourdomain.com/article1 A little bit cleaner way to handle Redirect URL's is to use a Redirect URL software package. To answer the needs of our customers, we have created a software program that you can house on your own server, that will let you set up redirects, and to count the number of click-through's on the Redirect URL. The software is called "Resource Box & Ad Tracker" and can be accessed in a new window by clicking this link. Additionally, I have always recommended for your benefit more than mine, even though I do profit from the advice as well, that you should commit to six articles to get the full benefit and knowledge of my service. As you already know, some articles that we think will do well, do not, and those we think will not, do. Factors that always affect the performance of an article include: article title, body text, topic, timing of distribution, current topic interest of publishers and webmasters, and whether the publisher or webmaster is reading or scanning all of his incoming email at the time of distribution or whether he or she is in a mass delete mode. There are so many factors that can affect the performance of a single article at any one time, and you and I simply cannot control all of the factors at work. Simply, it is important that you understand that I can put your article into the mailboxes of 17,000+ publishers and webmasters seeking articles like yours for reprint. But, I cannot guarantee how many of those publishers and webmasters will place your content. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Thank you, Bill Platt - Owner thePhantomWriters.com |
