FAQ #17: Search Links on Article PagesQuestion: Bill,I used the search links on the pages where my articles were posted to find out where my article had been published, and so far I saw it only in one site. Is it because other sites haven't been spidered yet, or by now we should already see the final results? Bob Answer: Bob, It usually takes 6-8 weeks for the search links on the articles pages to provide any real results. The results from my site are usually in place within 3 to 4 days. The same applies to places like Family-Content.com and Netterweb.com... More so on Google than any other engine, but this is pretty much true across all engines. On my site, I tell the robots to spider my article archives every 3 days. Most of them do so like clockwork, but the Google spider visits my site every three days without fail and accounts for 60% of the robot traffic on my site. Now, most of the sites that publish your articles are only being spidered every 60 days or so, since they do not add new content regularly. Additionally, a number of the sites that publish your content may not be known to the search engines at all. (This is why when I discover articles of my own on an actual URL, I go to http://freewebsubmission.com and submit the URL to the 20 search engines served by this submission software.) I review my own site stats on a daily basis looking for URL's where my articles might be posted. By looking at the "referer URL's", I know that my link is very likely on that page, so I manually verify the link and then submit the page to the search engines. Now, here is another factor. When I submit an URL to the search engines, most spiders tell you that they will not index new submissions for at least 60-120 days, if at all. And one more factor. Google does not show results for any site that carries less than PR4, or so they say. I hope this helps you to understand what we are up against in locating our articles where they have been posted. As always, our best source for locating the places where our articles have been published is the result of a direct contact by the publisher or webmaster. I wish we could count on all publishers and webmasters to notify us of the publication of our articles, but the sad truth is that not everyone is considerate enough to do so.
