FAQ #14: Where Exactly Do You Send My Articles?

Question: I had requested to receive a report from you concerning where you had distributed my article. I now have that report, and I am confused.

According to your advertising, you distribute my article to well over 10,000 publishers and webmasters. BUT, when you sent your report to me, there were only about 60 email addresses listed.

Can you explain to me the disparity between what you claim and what you delivered?

Answer: There is no disparity between what I claimed and what you received.

I do not submit directly to publishers. I submit all articles to Article Distribution Groups. Each of these groups have varying numbers of publishers subscribed to them.

Each group has anywhere from 10 to I believe at most 4,500 publishers and webmasters subscribed to receive messages from the group.

My report to you detailed the email addresses of 60 Article Distribution Groups that received your article.

If you want to visit every group listed in the report, and you want to take the time to count the number of subscribers for all of those groups, you will find that your article went out to the number of publishers and webmasters that I promised it would go to.

Chances are strong that you will find that your article actually went out to well beyond what I had advertised.

It is a matter of how I count my reach.

Some of my competitors count all groups into one global number for the reach of the articles they send out. But, the truth is that the Home Improvement list does not accept Home Business articles, so an honest count cannot show the Home Improvement subscriber base to be part of the global count. (Tsk, Tsk on my competitor's who count this way.)

Not all of the groups in your report are groups that I own and manage myself, but a good percentage of them are owned and managed by us.

To simplify your counting process, I have put together a list of all of the Article Distribution Groups that we own and manage.

The groups in our list are hyperlinked, so that when you click on a group, that group homepage will open in a new window.

  • All YahooGroups will show the subscriber counts in the left sidebar.
  • All Topica Groups will show the subscriber counts towards the bottom of the page.
  • SmartGroups/Wanadoo does not make membership numbers public.
  • All Google Groups will show the subscriber counts in the upper right hand corner of the page, immediately following the list description.
