1 What Should I Do? The Quandary of the Co-dependent
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2006-06-15 | - Word Count: 841 | Viewed: 1243 | Votes: 11 | Rating: 2.73
The 'Tyranny of the Shoulds' was recognized and labeled by psychoanalyst Karen Horney during the time of Freud. You may have another name for them: gremlins, monkey-mind, tapes, voices, and my favorite -- the committee. Let's give it a more precise name – codependency.

2 Decision Making: A Way of Life
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2006-04-18 |
You may be familiar with standard decision making steps such as fact-finding, problem-finding, idea-finding, solution-finding and acceptance-finding. They are fine tools, but first I suggest practicing the habit of becoming aware of the decisions that come up every day!

3 Turning Down Society's Volume
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2006-03-22 |
So you're tired of all of the world's noise spinning around you. Or is it spinning you around? But chances are that somewhere inside, you love the exciting pace. You might even find yourself uncomfortable with unexpected silence. Maybe your real dilemma is that you find it difficult to choose silence.

4 Help When you Need it: Finding a Mentor
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2006-02-09 |
When I started my business I was like most people starting out on a new endeavor, feeling like a fish out of water. There are so many unknowns in front of you that you might feel like a blind person in a maze, grasping at little ideas here and there in order to get help.

5 The Personality Test Prejudice - Shadows of the Truth
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2005-09-01 |
Personality tests are fun to take. These days you can categorize yourself as a color, an animal, a number, or letters. My favorite is the Myers-Briggs which has been a helpful tool for me...

6 A Path Away From the Crowds Skagway, Alaska
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2005-08-10 |
I was hanging out in Downtown Skagway waiting to fly over the mountain to our next stop, Gustavus. The fog was low and thick in both towns, temporarily grounding all flights.

7 Finding the "Holy" at the Grand Canyon
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2005-07-14 |
I arrived at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon with my husband after three hot days of driving. By the time we reached our cabin at the North Rim that Saturday evening, we were tired and hot, and ready to enjoy our vacation.

8 The Ducks of Rotary Lake, Auburn, Nebraska
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2005-06-08 |
Nature teaches me, and that's what I write about. My first great lesson from nature was in the summer of '88 while on a weekend motorcycle trip with my new husband, Leonard. We visited Brownville and Auburn Nebraska, known for Indian Caves, local theatre and antique shops.

9 Asking for Help Snowy Range, Wyoming
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2005-04-27 |
I have spent many weekends exploring the Snowy Range, 30 miles west of Laramie, Wyoming. Ponds and streams nestled between hills of wildflowers and wind-blown pines, all below a massive cliff. Safety seems sure because of the ever-present landmark. Climbing to the top of the cliff is exciting and relatively easy. The two mile trail takes just two hours and the view is worth the effort, especially when arriving at the summit just as the sun rises.

10 Knowing Where Home Is
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2005-03-21 |
Living by default isn't really living. It's being reactive, and that's what co-dependents do.

11 Where I Draw the Line -- The Zugspitze
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2005-01-14 |
The Zugspitze is a dramatic mountain above the town of Garmisch- Partenkirchen in Southern Bavaria, Germany. I enjoyed walking mountain trails were I lived three hours away, and inquired about the trails to the top of the Zugspitze. In Germany hiking isn't much of an extreme sport. The trails are well developed and Gasthauses (restaurants) dot the sides of the mountains, so one can practically count on a bier and a schnitzel at or near each peak.

12 Hiking in the Forest Knowing When to Slow Down
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2004-11-03 |
One morning in mid summer, I headed out for some time to myself on the trails of Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue, Nebraska. As usual, I stopped in at the Visitor Center to pay the entrance fee, then got back in my car and drove a couple miles down a long and winding road to the quieter back entrance.

13 Going it Alone: The Waterfall at Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2004-10-13 |
I stood at the observation point on the balcony at the Visitor Center overlooking the great Mendenhall Glacier at Juneau, Alaska. Before me was a beautiful scene. The glacier reflected in the large lake. Ooh, ahh. Both to the left and right were mountains. It was a beautiful clear day. I watched the people too, walking around taking photos, and looking at the scenery before us and at the displays in the center, just a few feet away.

14 Pompeii, Italy – Remembered
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2004-09-01 |
I first read about Pompeii in a National Geographic Magazine as a teenager. Mt. Vesuvius buried the city of 20,000 with ash and lava in AD 79. Of all the photos in the article, it was the photos of body casts that struck me most. They were so detailed, showing faces and bodies of people of all ages. One young woman lying on her side revealed a swelled stomach of an early pregnancy. Residents of Pompeii were overcome by ash and suffocated, then buried by lava.

15 Get Out and Walk, Already! The Matterhorn as a Backdrop
Written by: Theresa Gabriel | Distributed: 2004-08-02 |
When my husband and I lived in Germany, we took a driving vacation into Switzerland. We spent some time in Zermatt, a vacation village in the shadow of the Matterhorn. No gas-powered vehicles are allowed in town, so we left our car a few miles down the road at Tasch.
