Time Keeping and Weather Predictions by Andy Lipps |
|
|
In the mid 1700s, Ben Franklin published weather predictions in
Poor Richard's Almanac (1732-1757), expressly for the purpose of
helping farmers anticipate the way that their crops would be
affected by the weather. Weather predication has changed a lot
since the days of Ben Franklin, but those initial lessons about
weather observations can be practiced by the average person, even
at home. |

Greenwich Mean Time: What Is It and Why It Matters by Andy Lipps |
|
|
Ultimately, the concept of why accurate time keeping is important
can be traced back hundreds of years. In the 1880s, it was
determined that there needed to be some sort of international
standard for time keeping. It was because of this need to set
standards in time keeping that Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) were
established. |

It's All About the Clocks by Andy Lipps |
|
|
Clocks these days - well, they sure aren't what they once were;
and that might not be such a bad thing. The first clocks, going
way back to the 1300s, were a big step up from sun dials as a
means of telling time, but it's hard to say that they were very
accurate. |
