Top 10 Vacation Spots for Summer 2006

Written by:

Most Americans head out of state for their summer vacation, many with children or grandchildren in tow. Looking for a unique excursion this summer? Look no further. Vasrue.com offers tips on the top 10 vacation spots this summer.

No. 1: Belize. During summer months, you'll find it exceptionally easy to book rooms, while the hotels are in sparse supply during winter, cabin-fever months. Summer weather is pleasant and mild, reaching only into the upper-80s. Since the government bans high-rise construction, Belize is still a small, quaint resort.

No. 2: Paris. European natives vacation away from the cities in August, leaving tourist attractions less crowded and luxury resorts, with minimal business travelers, at low, seasonal rates. Hotel stays are as low as 40 percent below peak rates. Parisian August weather is a comfortable 75.

No. 3: Disney World, Florida. What could be a more memorable vacation than the 'Happiest Place on Earth"? With fantastic rides and attractions for the entire family and all-in-one resort packages, Disney World is a vacation must for families and couples. While visiting, be sure to experience Expedition Everest, a train-coaster, plus the enchanting 6.2 acres of magically themed lands.

No. 4: Colorado. Experience a rustic, outdoors vacation with exciting white water rafting rides. You'll find five-day trips in Cataract Canyon, Colorado, along with scenic hiking opportunities. Close the day with a cozy fireside gathering under the stars.

No. 5: Cedar Point, Ohio. Home of the "Best Amusement Park in the World", according to Amusement Today, Cedar Point, against Lake Erie, is a hot destination spot for people of all ages. Extreme thrill-seekers migrate to the Top Thrill Dragster, Raptor and Mantis, while carousels and slow coasters entertain the little ones.

No. 6: Prague. Looking for a romantic escape or honeymoon? Prague is an affordable European holiday between June and August, though the heat rises each month. Visit castles, famous bridges and Wenceslas Square.

No. 7: Rocky Mountains, Utah. With peak skiing in the winter, the Rocky Mountains lend way to steep vacation discounts during summer months, specifically in July. The terrain lends itself perfectly to outdoor adventure, from hiking to biking and invigorating white water rafting.

No. 8: San Juan Islands, Washington. San Juan is a Pacific Northwest haven, where June and July hotel, resort, cottage and inn pricing plummets 20 to 30 percent. Discover its natural beauty, kayaking, hiking and Orca whale watching in temperate weather between 60 to 70 degrees.

No. 9: Alaska. Moving into early Autumn, September marks the peak of fall foliage, with spectacular scenery and colorful skies. Cool temperatures in the 50s make way for outdoor adventure including glacier tours and rustic white-water rafting. Because summertime is the most popular with tourists, you'll find hotel rates offered at up to 30 percent discounts. Escape the heat and refresh in the crisp outdoor air.

No. 10: Quebec. Get a taste of European splendor during peak fall-foliage months in Quebec, Canada. A bit earlier and much less expensive than New England's brilliance, you'll find Canadian maples glowing in reds, oranges and sharp yellows between September and October.

Whether escaping the heat, planning a honeymoon or getting ready for a wild family frolic, there's something for everyone this season.
