Quitting Smoking Side Effects Are Not That Scary

When deciding to give up nicotine, you should also be aware that there are some quitting smoking side effects that you will have to deal with. Now, they are not as scary as you might first think, but you should be aware of them, in order to be prepared and deal with them the right way.

The thing is, giving up nicotine is in fact giving up a drug; therefore, there will be a withdrawal period, and the things you will experience in this period can well be referred to as quitting smoking side effects.

1. The first such quit smoking side effect that you are likely to experiment is being more agitated and getting angry more easily. The best way to 'cope' with this one is to let all your close ones know you're quitting. This way, they will know why you may snap easily, and will deal with this accordingly.

2. You will start to dream about smoking. I consider this quit smoking side effect rather funny! Just imagine it: you weak up one morning, with a huge feeling of either: guilt - because you had a dream in which you did not 'resist', and you smoked; relief - because you had a dream in which you managed to say no to an opportunity when you almost smoked. Now come on, this is funny! If nicotine can mess with your head SO much as to get you to dream those things, then it's a really strong drug!

3. Other quit smoking side effects are the 'power of patterns', which you will have to resist: many people who have become smoke-free have reported this particular quit smoking side effect: that they feel like they need to beat the patterns they created: to smoke on their breaks at work, to light up when they have their coffee, etc. The easiest way to deal with this particular quit smoking side effect is to: a) find other things to do - like eat candy, an apple, play with something (to keep hands busy) or just keep telling yourself you're doing the RIGHT thing. Because you are.

One thing you should be aware of throughout your process of becoming smoke-free is that this will NOT be an easy job, UNLESS you paint it out as an easy one. The explanation is simple: in as little as 3 to 5 days you will kick the physical addiction, leaving you with just the psychological one. And how you look at becoming smoke free will make the difference in beating this one: if you look at it as giving something up, and a difficult task, then that's what it will be. If, on the other hand, you see it as a relief, as getting rid of something bad, it will be much, much easier. Either way, keep in mind the quit smoking side effect we talked about above, and make sure you think about dealing with them before you come to face them. This will increase your chances by as much as 30%, I'd say!
