Bette Midler both Bruises and Warms My Soul

The woman is an icon to America for creating sappy Broadway-like tunes and crooning her way onto the big screen. Sitting on my roommates, plush green futon, while watching a brilliant cameo appearance of the Divine Miss M on a 'Seinfeld' rerun, I thought to myself "God, Bette Midler really is fantastic. More articles should be dedicated to her magnificence." There are so many qualities about this woman that people have forgotten about or pay little attention to. Her music isn't the greatest. It's powerful, a bit melodramatic, and over sassy for a slightly conservative twenty-something's taste. However, if I remember her gripping role in 'Beaches' and how she was capable of making a straight man cry, that is truly a remarkable accomplishment.

Midler was born in the exotic Honolulu, Hawaii with a hungry animalistic desire to become a Broadway star. She majored in Drama at the University of Hawaii and early on started her career in low-key movie roles. Once she moved to New York she started making appearances in professional shows, such as 1966's version of 'Fiddler on the Roof'. In 1970, she started singing with piano man Bary Manilow at the Continental Baths. She's won Tony Awards, Grammys, an Emmy, and my roommate (Erin's) heart.

The Divine Miss M tried out a failed TV program in 2000, called none other than 'Bette'. It was completely abysmal and a total flop for the ratings. However, this minor fumble can easily be ignored. One of Bette's finest roles has been in 'Hocus Pocus'. God, that movie was great. The spooky Halloween blockbuster was released in 1993, starring not only the Divine Miss M, but 'Sex in the City's' Sarah Jessica Parker, comedian Kathy Najimy, and tiny little Thora Birch. I don't think anyone really remembers the boy's name. He kind of disappeared and turned ugly after this movie. Who can forget such quotes from Midler's role as Winni: "You know, I've always wanted a child. And now I think I'll have one . . . on toast!" or, "Oh look, another glorious morning. Makes me SICK!" Additionally, no one can forget the classic part when Sarah Jessica Parker Bottom molests her broom and sings perversely for all the little children to come to her so that she can take them away. Bottom line, 'Hocus Pocus' was great and Bette really needs to make another quotable family film rather fast before she becomes too politically and ecologically involved.

In late 2006, a new Bette Midler Christmas Album will be released. Surprise! But there will be a fun duet with Johnny Mathis. Johnny is the popular singer and songwriter of 'Winter Wonderland', 'Let it Snow', and 'Moon River'. Bette's also starting work on a film with Helen Hunt, Matthew Broderick, and Colin Firth, called 'Then She Found Me". The Divine Miss M will hopefully have the chance now to redeem herself from the not so hot 'Isn't She Great". Also in the works currently is an October 25th release of probably really wretchedly sappy croon pop-jazz tunes, performed along with Barry Manilow. It is a collection appropriately titled: 'The Peggy Lee Songbook'. Bette you can't wait for this one.

A new trend that has set people purchasing baked goods is over-priced cupcake shops. I'm seriously not joking. There are people out here in this country that would pay over three dollars for a small confectionary cupcake. Celebrities aren't the only ones that have taken a small obsession to the cupcake fad. However, their interest in products and stores always drive in the public by the masses.

The image of a virtual office phone service company is integral for gaining new and retaining old clients. All that is needed in order to install the VOIP system is a regular PC, the proper software systems, and a headset for making outgoing calls. Madison Square Gardens has an annual tradition of hosting the CFA IAMS Cat Championships, hosted by the Cat Fanciers' Association within the Expo Center. I had the great pleasure of accompanying a cat enthusiast this weekend to survey the kitty floor. After purchasing my over-priced cat show ticket, I circled my way around the many tower levels and found myself face to face with the ticket clinchers. Upon thrusting my $15 ticket into the hand of a stupidly smiling portly fellow . . . I quickly realized that this is going to be weird.

Atlantic City, land of gambling, entertainment, and alcoholics was in fact originally settled by the Lenni-Lenape Indians on Absecon Island. In the 1600's the Indians were partial to the ocean and the vast amounts of game and nature found on the island. Quickly, this all changed in the late 1670's when the first Europeans and Thomas Budd came to take control of acquiring the island. Eventually, a man named Jeremiah Leeds became the first European to set up a building on the island in 1785 and his future family started the first businesses. The Leeds became the founders of the fabulous Atlantic City.

One of the worst and most severe manifestations of childhood social anxiety disorders is labeled as Selective Mutism disorder. Originally, fifteen years ago the disorder was called Elective Mutism because doctors figured that all children who didn't talk were either shy or in another category. Elective mutes were seen as belligerent, stubborn, and obnoxious kids who were rebelling by not talking against some effort in order to get attention.
