Egyptian Decor
Copyright (c) 2006-2010 Maryann Larsen
The ancient Egyptians were a highly civilized people who left behind a wealth of statues, bas reliefs, sculptures, canopic jars, busts and other artistic pieces. Today, you can purchase professionally recreated replicas of nearly all the famous pieces, including, Isis, King Tut and the god, Anubis. You can also find exquisite replicas of Egyptian statues, Egyptian wall hangings and Egyptian plaques.
Using Egyptian furniture, accessories, and wall hangings adds a sophisticated flair to any home. Tapping into the rich history of the Egyptians is also a great icebreaker. Conversation begs to be started around Egyptian statues, furniture, and accessories.
The history of creating art replicas goes back to Imperial Rome where bronze and marble replicas of Greek treasures served as embellishments for the excessive Roman villas and gardens of the era. Egyptian statues created today have a unique material that is a casting stone with an antique stone finish, many have a marble base and are hand-painted. These statues may range from the God of the Dead, Anubis, to the Pharaoh of the time, and even King Tut.
Replicas of Egyptian wall hangings capture the history of ancient Egypt, its victorious battles and moments of glory. You may also find anything from a sculpture showing Isis with her wings extended in a pose of protection, to a hand painted Egyptian art piece depicting an offering by the Pharaoh Ptolemy V where he offers the spiritual inner eyes of Horus. You can find any number of classic paintings or sculptures representing the great power of the ancient Pharaoh.
Isis, though worshipped all over Egypt, was specially admired in certain cities and is now a famous piece of Egyptian d?cor for people to collect. From numerous ancient writings taken from widely varied periods, we learn that Isis had great skill in the practice of magic. Numerous examples of the manner in which she employed her magic are well known today.
Another famous Egyptian deity was Anubis, God of the Dead. He was represented with the head of a jackal, or simply as a jackal. He opened the path to the other world and ruled over the removal of internal organs from a body prior to mummification. A priest or holy man then acted as a guide. Anubis is also a popular piece among Egyptian d?cor collectors.
Pharaohs, such King Tut, are extremely popular pieces to collect. Statues, wall hangings or plaques can represent them. Today, collecting Egyptian d?cor is a valued pastime for many people. The history and feelings of reverence towards the ancient Egyptian culture is to be treasured and protected. This legacy will be carried on through the many priceless artistic pieces that serve as the basis for the Egyptian d?cor available today.
