Girls Sleepover Party Ideas

Copyright (c) 2008-2012

Throwing a sleepover for your daughter is one of the most memorable events she will have from her childhood. Regardless of her age, these parties make memories she will take with her as she grows up. How can you make these nights more memorable? By following a few tips, you can make the most out of your daughter’s next sleepover.

Sleepover Party Themes

With your daughter, choose a theme for the party. She could choose her favorite color or favorite cartoon character. Depending on the weather, she can choose to have it inside or outside, or both! When you create invitations and decorations, this theme will help you stay organized.

Sleepover Party Invitations

When creating invitations, you can make the card to look like a sleeping bag, and stick a small picture of your daughter out of the opening. Inside, you can put graphics like the night sky or something to do with the party’s theme. Make sure to include your daughter’s name, the address of your house, date and time the guests need to be dropped off, when they will need to be picked up, and what guests need to bring with them.

If there are any special “rules” such as a color that should be worn or cartoon character that should be worn, this is the place to tell guests about it. For instance, if her favorite color is green and that is her theme, she could make it so that each guest needs to wear something or bring something green and you should tell your guests this in the invitation. You can have a movie marathon sleepover; for example, if the party is in October you could have (depending on the age of the girls) a scary movie marathon. Your daughter and you can visit the movie rental store before the party and pick out movies together. (A little prep for Halloween!)

Sleepover Party Games

Some games or activities should be planned for the evening so that guests don’t become restless or disruptive. A scavenger hunt outside or throughout the neighborhood is always fun, as are drawing on the sidewalks with chalk or shaving cream fights outside. As for inside games, on your invitation tell each guest to bring pajamas and slippers, a stuffed animal, a sleeping bag and pillow, as well as a toothbrush and comb. If they bring all of the items, they get a prize. Drink boxes, pencil toppers, and small decorative notebooks are all economical prizes for the girls. For another activity, before the party make slips of paper with various directions on them:

1. lay your sleeping bag flat, in front of the TV
2. put your pillow on the top of the sleeping bag
3. put your stuffed animal on your sleeping bag
4. put on your PJs and slippers
5. brush your teeth
6. brush your hair
7. lay inside sleeping bag

Have one envelope with all seven slips of paper mixed up in it for each girl; lay the envelopes on a table. Instruct the girls to find the envelope with their name on it, and find the slip of paper that has a “1” on it. Once they find it they have to follow the directions on it and then come back to the table to find the slip with “2” on it and follow its directions. The girls must do all seven steps before the movie can start. You can offer prizes for this game as well.

As each girl finishes, she might get a “sleeping” bag containing a couple pieces of candy, a drink box, a pen or pencil and a small address book. The girls can then exchange numbers with all their friends and have a place to put them, and they have a drink to go with the popcorn for their movie. Makeovers are always a fun thing to do for older girls; hair, makeup, and nails are all fun for makeovers. You can have girls bring their own supplies or you can furnish them. If the girls need to bring their own, make sure that this is stated in the invitation. Playing board games is another great indoor activity, as are craft activities such as Bedazzling or other beading crafts. Again, if the girls need to bring their own supplies, make sure you let them know ahead of time.

Easy Breakfast Ideas

In the morning, you can offer assorted bite sized muffins, doughnuts, and bagels as well as juice and milk for breakfast. The more individualized food items you have, the easier the party will be for you. You can get small juice or milk boxes in assorted varieties at the grocery store. For older girls you can serve waffles with whip cream and fruit, or supervise making pancakes or eggs, depending on their age and the size of the group.

Pajama parties make memories your daughter will have for a lifetime, and by following these easy tips you can make it memorable for her and less stressful for you.
