When Academy Award winning movie star Nicole Kidman wed country music superstar Keith Urban, the flowers were as breathtaking as the beautiful bride. It would seem the couple certainly knows something about the magic flowers can add to any special event and they took great care to use them to their full advantage.
The flowers used in the bouquet and the ceremony were an eclectic mix. Kidman's bouquet was a mixture of white peonies with red buds, while Urban wore a white rose boutonniere. Inside the chapel were dozens of flowers of various types, including anemones, white freesias, gardenias, Green Goddess lilies, hellebores, and orchids.
Still more flowers adorned the reception site, which was decorated with passion in mind. Vibrant red orchids and hibiscus blooms were draped over the chandeliers. To bring the beauty of flowers to each table, tapered candles were surrounded by a ring made from japonica, red roses, red orchids, red and purple orchids, and small hibiscus. Overall, the flowers helped achieve a spectacular setting that seemed to be right out of Kidman's hit movie Moulin Rouge.
Kidman later tossed her gorgeous bouquet from a balcony where it was caught by a friend of Urban's family who was standing chatting with other guests when the bouquet literally landed at her feet. Unfortunately, the lucky guest's homeland, New Zealand, does not allow travelers to bring fresh flowers into the country. Since she couldn't take it home, the guest passed out individual blooms to several other guests and gave the rest of the bouquet to Urban's parents.
New Zealand's laws about bringing fresh flowers into the country aren't really all that unusual. Many countries have similar laws, including the United States. As a result, brides who marry outside of the country, such as on Caribbean islands and other popular wedding sites, should check carefully into the regulations and think carefully about their floral plans. They should be aware that they might not be able to bring home flowers to have them preserved as so many brides do.
Although Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's guest couldn't take the flowers home with her, she'll undoubtedly remember the day and the flowers for years to come, as will Kidman and Urban.
