Warning Signs: Expect The Best; Prepare For The Worst – A Woman's Guide To Divorce
Copyright (c) 2007-2022 Cathi Adams
When it comes to marriage, a woman never dreams of the worst case scenarios. The dream-like qualities of a "Happily Ever After" life keep all the negative outcomes pushed well back in her mind. However, divorce is becoming much more common as the years pass. It isn't unusual for a woman to find herself 5 years, 10 years or even 15 years into a marriage, only to be faced with separation and, eventually, divorce.
How does a woman prepare for an event such as a divorce and the life that will follow? In reality, she cannot. The emotions and events surrounding a divorce, followed by a life after divorce, will be hard, especially if there are children. However, there are things that can be done to minimize the trauma of a divorce and allow the woman to move forward more easily.
First, there is the continuation of the woman's career. Many don't realize the difficulty of "breaking into" a working environment, even if a career was well established 5 years or 10 years ago. When a woman ends a career to stay home and then a divorce occurs, the woman literally has to start over – often back at the bottom of the "corporate ladder".
Maintaining job skills by working full-time, if possible, or part-time will allow a woman to continue climbing, or at least hold fast, to the level she has achieved in the working environment. This will also keep her hourly or salary wages climbing, as opposed to stagnating or possibly dropping.
When staying at home is more cost effective for a family, then a woman should be sure to keep her job skills current. Continuation of contact with the work place, open communication and networking with those in the work force, taking seminars and workshops to learn new skills and current trends are key elements to maintaining your worth in the working world.
There is also the possibility of a home business. Women today are finding that working from home is quite satisfying and a way to maintain their level of income. As skills increase, so do the profits of a home business. If a divorce should occur, the home business can continue wherever the woman would happen to relocate.
When a divorce occurs, money issues for a woman can become a mountain that seems impossible to climb. If there are children, there will be significant child care costs. If a career has been stopped and motherhood is the woman's only job, then wages will many times be quite low. Even with child support and alimony laws, oftentimes a woman and her children's lifestyle will suffer after a divorce.
So, the key to life after divorce for women is to always have a plan. Keep up with financial issues and know how to keep income and bills balanced and current. Have a way to support yourself and your children, if necessary, in the event of an ended marriage. As the title says – expect the best, prepare for the worst. Women who do will have a much greater peace of mind in the event of a divorce.

One of the most painful aspects of divorce is how to tell the
children that Mommy and Daddy will not live together anymore.
Children are the innocent victims when a marriage falls apart.
Your feelings toward your soon-to-be-ex may be bitter and even
vengeful. Your children's feelings are not the same. Daddy is
still Daddy, no matter what. Your children have every right to
love each parent unconditionally. Even though that marriage ends,
the family you created is forever. Your ex will forever be tied
to you through the children.

who was a leader in their place of worship and community, would
be unfaithful. She was blindsided when her husband came home one
night and said he wanted a divorce because he had fallen in love
with another woman.

I was recently taking in a horror movie with my son when he
suddenly made an amazing remark, 'It's not so scary anymore,
because we've seen the killer.' How true that statement is in
every aspect of life. True horror and real fear is really the
fear of the unknown. The less we know about the thing we fear,
whatever it is, the scarier it is. This seems to be the main
secret that those folks who make horror movies use so
effectively.

Mothers know best, so they say, but when a woman is going through
a divorce, it takes more than 'mum' to lend a helping hand. In
fact some women say that when their marriages are in trouble,
they don't necessarily turn to their mothers for counselling.
They would much rather seek the advice of a marriage therapist or
advisor because they seek independent insight and opinion on why
their marriages are about to crumble.

If a woman is not physically or sexually abused by her husband,
people generally conclude there is no abuse. But women should
give this question more serious thought. Abuse need not be
verbal, physical or sexual. These types of abuse are sufficient
grounds to head straight for the divorce courts because a
physically or sexually abusive partner needs professional help.
