* Eliminate Study Distractions. If you’re not focused
on the task at hand, you’re going to spend far too many
hours ‘studying’ without actually learning anything.
* Create a Study Outline. Have a plan of action for
attacking your studies ahead of time so you don’t waste
time studying the wrong things.
* Prep a couple of days before a test. The ideal time to
study is not hours before your exam. Smart students allow
a couple of days for information to sink in, and simply
review material briefly the night before a big exam.
* Find a quiet study place. You want to study in an
environment that is free from clutter and chaos. Too much
clutter will only prove distracting.
* Highlight. When reading text, skim through and highlight
major points, terms or conclusions. You’ll be able to skip
over unnecessary detail and cut your studying time in half.
* Organize. If you aren’t organized your study time will
be inefficient. Take some time to gather up all of the
materials you need to study before you start studying. This
includes bringing some water and a snack along to your
study place so you don’t waste time searching for something
to nosh on.
* Eat well before big study sessions. Your brain requires
a certain amount of fuel to function efficiently. If you
feed your brain cinnamon buns right before a study session,
your brain will retire early and absorb half the information
it would have if you had selected something a little more
nourishing.
* Limit study time. That’s right! Study too many hours and
you will retain less information that if you had limited your
study sessions to 1-2 hours maximum. You need to give your
brain time to absorb information and process things in order
to truly succeed.
Study efficiently and smartly, and you’ll find that you cut
your studying time in half and double your party time while
sailing through college the smart student’s way.
