The Blair Witch Project, the smash hit of 1999 was made on
an almost non-existent budget of $25,000 and it made over
$140,000,000. Open water was made for $500,000 and it made
$30,000,000. Napoleon Dynamite was made for the same amount and
it brought in more than 44 million dollars! This is age of
independent low-budget filmmaking and the latest film offering in
this insane streak of profit is Machiavelli Hangman. "I haven’t
seen such an internet frenzy over a film since Blair Witch
Project came out. People are all talking about it and the film
hasn’t even reached a release date yet!" says Bill Procontelle,
VP at hotspot enterprises.
Machiavelli Hangman started out as a small community-financed
film but the buzz gained momentum in chatrooms and message
boards. Originally, everyone thought that this was going to be
the next Quentin Tarantino film with the broken structure and
breaking all of Hollywood conventions. It’s that, but soon
everyone realized that this was a totally different beast. "When
the government is said to have tried stop production on the film,
you know that it’s going to make a big mess when it’s released."
At this point, there’s nothing that can stop Machiavelli Hangman
from being shown to the public. Too many people know about it.
It would be like trying to pull the veil over the wolf’s eyes
while he’s in a chicken farm.
The film is taking the same propaganda routes that Farenheit/911
took on the current President and the Da Vinci Code explored with
Christianity. Machiavelli Hangman reveals the biggest
governmental secrets revolving around the real man who killed
John F. Kennedy. "If you think it was Oswald, you’re far from
mistaken… The Warren Commission was a way for the government to
diffuse the situation and avert the public’s eyes from the real
facts. Until today, the American public is unaware of what really
happened on that afternoon of 1963 when the President’s Lincoln
drove down the street.
Despite the mounting success of the film and the anticipation of
the fans, the filmmakers are nowhere to be found and have not
offered a single interview with papers. Some rumors were flying
around that they were scheduled to appear on Dateline to discuss
the source of information, but the interview was suddenly
cancelled at the very last minute.
"It’s a very explosive situation and we need to go about this as
cautiously and effectively as possible not to cause riots at the
release of the film," said Julia Strumfeld, the representative
for the film.
